The game works great in Crossover, however you need a good GFX card (512mb recommended) for the game. Besides that you need to make sure “GLSL” is de-selected in the video options, otherwise you will experience graphical glitches. Windows version isn't abandonware, but the quake 3 engine is completely free and there are dozens of free open source games that use it and are free and is in beer.
Search for Quake Live, or Open Arena, or Alien Arena, or Urban Terror or just download the engine and use the files from the old game to compile it yourself.
